Union County Republican Central Committee will hold their next monthly meeting on Thursday, July 5th, at the Flying J Restaurant conference room at 12PM. The guest speakers will be Representative Greg Barreto and his wife Chris Barreto. They will be talking about the history of the formation of their families local business. Seating is limited, but everyone is invited to attend. A no-host lunch will also be available.
The American Legion Post 43 in La Grande holds Bingo Thursday evenings, with Early Bird games starting at 6PM, and a second session beginning at 7PM. Jackpots start at $100 and $250, and a 50/50 raffle will also be available. The public is welcome to come down to 301 Fir Street in La Grande each week to participate. The Meals on Wheels program in Union County is in need of volunteers to deliver meals to seniors at their homes. The time investment is only about two hours per week. The Cook Memorial Library’s Literacy Center is open every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in La Grande. From 1:30PM – 5PM, devoted volunteers assist any individual that needs help in all areas of reading, writing, and speaking. There are opportunities to connect with reading partners, develop reading and language skills, and even help with homework for students. This is a perfect opportunity for all ages to receive free help in these literacy skills, or even for someone you care for. Elkhorn Community Preparedness in Baker City hosts a monthly meeting at the Sunridge Inn, on the third Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be held at 6:30PM on July 17th. All Baker County residents are welcome to attend the meeting.
Wildflower Lodge Assisted Living in La Grande holds their Dementia Support Groups on the first and third Wednesday of each month. There will be another AARP “Smart Driver” Safety Class, on Saturday, July 21st, at Grande Ronde Hospital. The class will take place from 9AM – 4PM, and will be taught by certified volunteer instructor, Fred Moore. Completion of the class entitles drivers to a discount in their auto insurance in most cases. Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.
