Oregon’s distracted driving law went into effect October 1st. Now, an addition to the law will allow the court to waive the fine for first-time offenders, if they attend a distracted driving avoidance course. The law has been challenging for police, who must first determine whether drivers are using their phones before pulling them over. It’s easy for drivers to hide the phone, but now, unmarked patrol vehicles are being used to look for drivers using their phones, making it also easier for officers to catch them.
