Union County deputies were involved in a vehicle pursuit in the Elgin area after the deputy tried to stop a vehicle after a traffic violation. Speeds reached Eighty miles per hour before it all ended when the driver crashed into a ditch on Bean Coffin Road. Both the driver and passenger fled on foot. Both were caught minutes later. The driver turned out to be Dustin Mathis. Both he and an unnamed passenger were treated for minor injuries at Grande Ronde Hospital and then released. Mathis was locked up in the Union County Jail on an outstanding Union County felony warrant, 3 counts of Recklessly Endangering Another, Attempting to Elude, Reckless Driving, Assault, and Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver when a person is injured.
