Representative Greg Walden stopped by the Wallowa County’s Sheriff’s Office last week, to talk about the rising prescription drug addiction crisis and the county’s efforts to combat it. Walden was shown how effective the prescription drug collection program sponsored locally by law enforcement is, when officers piled half a dozen banker boxes and several two-gallon plastic bags on a conference room table, representing six months of pills that have been voluntarily deposited into a receptacle at the sheriff’s office. Officers told Walden that sometimes bottles with as many as 500 to 700 pills come in.
