On 9-12-17 The Union County Sheriff’s School Resource Deputy received information regarding a threat of gun violence to occur in the La Grande High School at an unknown date and time. The Deputy contacted supervisors at both the Union County Sheriff’s Office and the La Grande Police. A school reach informational phone call was initiated by La Grande School District staff to parents at approximately 1600 hours.
The deputy continued the investigation and on 9-13-17 a 15 year old female and La Grande High School student was cited in lieu of custody for Disorderly Conduct I (Class A misdemeanor). Her case will be referred to the Union County Juvenile Department and Union County District Attorney’s Office.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the La Grande Police Department and administration at the La Grande School District during this investigation. At this point there is no evidence indicating an immediate threat to the students, staff or the public.
Law enforcement in Union County, School District staff members throughout the county and all other stakeholders in the community rely on these collaborate efforts during critical events such as this. They also rely on and thank students who are aware, mindful and cooperative during these types of investigations in order to reach a timely and safe resolution.
