On 6/25/19 at approximately 1:30 PM, the Sheriff’s Office received a tip from a citizen regarding the whereabouts of Wendy and Jackson Cox. Jackson was reported as a missing child from the La Grande area on 6/23/19 at approximately 8:30 PM. Deputies and officers initially responded in an attempt to locate the missing child. Search and Rescue responded as well to assist in locating Jackson. It was later determined the child was likely abducted by Wendy, who was the non-custodial parent.

After receiving the tip, the Sheriff’s Office contacted the Portland Police Bureau who subsequently located Wendy and the missing child at a hotel in the Portland area. Wendy Cox was taken into custody and Child Protective Services responded to assist with the transport of Jackson back to Union County.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the robust and immediate response from the Search and Rescue team who deployed many volunteers the night Jackson went missing and the following days as they attempted to locate him. They also appreciate the assistance from the La Grande Police Department and Dispatch Center as well as the Oregon State Police and the Portland Police Bureau. The FBI and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children also offered assistance.
