The La Grande City Council has voted to authorize the mayor and city manager to take the remaining steps to implement a Quiet Zone with regard to train traffic. Now, all that remains are completion of the safety devices at La Grande’s five train intersections, and to “provide a notice of Quiet Zone establishment to all concerned parties” at least three weeks before it goes into effect. Four of the five crossings are said to be least $10,000 under budget, with the fifth more than $9,000 under.
