La Grande School District’s enrollment is up. Early numbers show the school district now has 2,370 students, a slight increase from one year ago. Enrollment has a big impact on funding. Oregon school districts receive about $7,770 per student from the state. The school district’s enrollment rose an average of 65 students each of the previous three years. 48 percent of students come from lower-income families, allowing them to qualify for free and reduced cost lunches under the federal government’s school meal program… a stark reminder that many students in the school district are from families at or near the poverty line.
