As the wildfires rage in southern California, and now threaten some major populated cities, some Union County firefighters are headed to California to help. The Oregon State Fire Marshal, through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, has activated its Agency Operations Center and deployed 15 strike teams to assist with the raging infernos. Among them… firefighters from La Grande, La Grande Rural, Imbler and North Powder. One of the fires is said to be burning almost 100,000 acres and is only 5 percent contained.
