If you live or work in La Grande and you don’t like the sound of trains, you will be happy with this story… The Federal Railroad Administration has notified La Grande that its application to establish a Quiet Zone has been approved. Now, La Grande is free to put a plan in place prohibiting train operators from blasting their horns while rolling through the city. Business owners are thrilled… motel operators say travelers stopping in La Grande are bothered by the train horns. There is a downside though… the City of La Grande will have to spend at least $200,000 to take steps like installing safety devices, before the quiet zone takes effect.
