Major heating system upgrades are being planned for La Grande High and Greenwood and Island City Elementary Schools. Several options are under consideration… the least expensive of which would cost $1.1 million and would limit the work to the east portion of La Grande High School, wheer boilers that provide steam heat that were installed in the 50’s would be replaced with new ones… boosting energy efficiency. A second option, at about $1.5 million, would keep the high school’s old boilers but replace all the old pipes and fixtures, and to hot water to heat the building. A hot water heating system is said to be easier to maintain than steam heat.
