On Saturday, April 28, 2018 between 10AM and 2PM the City of La Grande Police Department, in partnership with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Union County Safe Communities Coalition, and Union County District Attorney Kelsie McDaniel participated in the National Drug Take Back Initiative XV.
La Grande and Union County residents were encouraged to embrace the opportunity this event provided to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, or unwanted medications, which are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. The event aimed to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposal.
The event was an overwhelming success. At the collection site outside of the La Grande Police Department, seventy-five people returned over 95 pounds of medications. The medications will be turned over to the DEA for destruction.
The La Grande Police Department, Union County Safe Communities Coalition, and Union County District Attorney Kelsie McDaniel would like to thank all those who participated. We would also like to provide a reminder that a drug drop box is available in the lobby of the La Grande Police Department at all times. If you have expired, unused, or unwanted medications, you can dispose of them in this drop box.
