The Eastern Oregon football team was selected to finish in sixth place in the 2018 Frontier Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The Mountaineers finished in sixth place in 2017 with a 4-6 record, but four of the six losses came by less than 10 points. EOU received 27 points in the poll, just one point behind Carroll College for fifth and three points behind College of Idaho and Montana Tech for third place in a very competitive conference.
“Some of the things we are working on each and every day is to have more consistency,” said head coach Tim Camp at the annual Frontier Conference media day. “I am so excited for 2018 and I want to get back to our roots at Eastern Oregon.”
Southern Oregon was picked to win the conference for a second-straight year after advancing the NAIA semifinals a year ago.
Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams in the poll. First place was worth seven points, second place worth six points, third place worth five points, fourth place worth four points, fifth place worth three points, sixth place worth two points and seventh place worth one point.
