With two road victories over Corban and No. 15 Northwest Christian, the No. 7 Eastern Oregon women’s basketball team was named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Team of the Week on Monday. This is the second time they have received the honor this season.
The Blue and Gold (20-2, 13-0 CCC) improved its already amazing season with two more wins against Corban and No. 15 Northwest Christian. Senior guard Payton Parrish led the team with 17.5 PPG and senior forward Stormee Van Belle supported her with 16.5 PPG.
In Friday’s victory over Corban, the Mounties dominated from start to finish, opening the game with a 33-point first quarter and keeping their lead until the end of the game. High-percentage three-point shooting was what ignited this lead, as they shot 46% behind the arc.
Parrish made five of the team’s 13 three-pointers and scored 19 points with seven boards while Van Belle added 18 points with eight boards. The nation’s leading three-point shooting team was once again making it rain, draining 13 three-pointers.
On Saturday, the Mounties got the win in overtime against a tough No. 15 Northwest Christian squad. It was a low-scoring game as both teams shot below 40% from the field and 30% from behind the three-point line.
The Mountaineers controlled the overtime period with their experience, outscoring Northwest Christian 11-3.
The Mounties next remain on the road for a mid-week contest. On Wednesday, they visit Cascade Conference opponent College of Idaho in the I-84 rivalry game at 5:30 p.m. Mountain time in Caldwell, Idaho.
