The La Grande Parks & Recreation Department received a grant from Oregon State Parks last fall to replace the playground at Benton (Pumpkin) Park.
Parks & Recreation Director Stu Spence said, “Unfortunately the pumpkin has to be removed due to liability concerns. The City follows strict safety guidelines, inspects all of its playgrounds regularly and the pumpkin has been determined to be out of compliance.”
Removal of the old playground will begin Wednesday, April 18th including the removal of the pumpkin play structure.
The City will turn the pumpkin over to B&K to be recycled. The new play structure is planned to be open May 4th to the public after a couple of weeks of installation work by city crews.
