This weekend the Eastern Oregon Search and Rescue (EOSAR) group will be training on the Mount Emily Recreation Area (MERA), Morgan Lake and the surrounding vicinity. Seventy search and rescue members from the ten eastern Oregon counties which comprise EOSAR will be participating. This year includes the assistance of thirty members from the Oregon, Washington, and Idaho Civil Air Patrol aircraft and ground teams.
The annual conference commences at the Union County Fairgrounds Friday afternoon and continues through Saturday in Union County. Scenarios will provide training for Search and Rescue K9 units, ground searches, drones, overhead teams, and water recovery dive training at Morgan Lake. The trainings will provide searches for missing persons, vehicles, and aircraft, and packaging patients for wilderness extraction. This year includes aircraft from the Civil Air Patrol that will be based at the La Grande Airport allowing the ability to search larger areas. The training simulations allow interactions with the different agencies and resources involved as well as practicing coordination and radio communication, which is a key goal of this EOSAR summer exercise 2018 training.
Members of the public planning on recreating in these areas should be advised of a significant increase in traffic and resource utilization.
